I’m a credentialed teacher with a B.A. in Historiography, an M.A. in Education, and experience teaching History, Social Studies, Math, Science, Journalism, and writing to middle- and high-school students. I’m also fluent in both English and Spanish. I’ve taught in public, charter, and international-school settings, working with students in whole classes, small groups, and individually.
One of my strengths is figuring out where a student lost the thread. Sometimes the issue is the material itself. Other times, it is how it was explained or where an earlier skill never fully clicked. I try to find that point and approach it from another direction. In History and writing, that can mean working through a difficult reading, developing an argument, or helping a student organize ideas they already have. In Math, I work through the reasoning step by step so students understand why something works instead of only memorizing a procedure.
I see teaching as something that happens with a student, not to a student. I’m there to guide the process, ask questions, explain when needed, and help students make sense of what they are learning. At the same time, the thinking, writing, and problem solving still belong to them. I want students to feel supported while also taking responsibility for their own work.
I can help with History and Social Studies, elementary and middle-school Math, academic writing, Spanish, research, homework support, and study skills. My goal is not just to get a student through an assignment. I want them to understand what they are doing, become more confident in their own thinking, and gradually need less help from me.
