I am a former high school math teacher and mathematics graduate of Carleton College. I also hold master's degrees from Duke University and Indiana University. My teaching experience includes serving as a high school math teacher, a statistics teaching assistant at Duke University, a math skills center tutor at Carleton College, and a GRE instructor with Kaplan. Over the years, I have worked with students ranging from elementary school through adulthood in both classroom and one-on-one settings.

I tutor Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Probability, Discrete Mathematics, and other quantitative subjects. I also help students prepare for the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT. My experience includes classroom teaching, one-on-one tutoring, and small-group instruction, allowing me to adapt lessons to different learning styles, skill levels, and academic goals.

My teaching philosophy is that math becomes much easier when students can visualize and understand the ideas behind the formulas rather than simply memorizing procedures. I focus on identifying where a student is getting stuck, building a strong conceptual foundation, and developing clear problem-solving strategies. Graphs, diagrams, patterns, and real-world examples often help turn abstract concepts into ideas that are easier to understand and remember.

Many students come to tutoring feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or convinced that they are "not math people." My goal is to help students build confidence, improve performance, and become more independent learners. Whether you are trying to raise a course grade, prepare for an important exam, or strengthen long-term quantitative skills, I strive to make challenging concepts clear, logical, and approachable. Please feel free to reach out with information about your course, exam, or goals, and we can discuss a plan for success.

Algebra 1

I am a former high school Algebra 1 teacher with a math degree from Carleton College and graduate degrees from Duke and Indiana University. My tutoring adapts to each student's needs and curriculum, typically including linear equations, graphing, systems of equations, inequalities, and exponents. Rather than memorizing rules or steps, I make the material approachable by helping students visualize functions and develop their own problem-solving strategies.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As a former high school math teacher and mathematics graduate of Carleton College, I have extensive experience helping students succeed in Algebra 2. I focus on building conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization so that topics such as functions, logarithms, quadratics, and trigonometry become easier to understand. Many students find Algebra 2 challenging because new concepts build quickly on previous material. I help students identify gaps, strengthen foundations, and develop confidence through clear explanations and guided practice.
Calculus

Calculus

I hold a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Carleton College and have worked with students at both the high school and college levels. Calculus is often presented as a collection of formulas, but I focus on helping students understand the underlying ideas of change, motion, rates, and accumulation. Visual explanations and graph-based intuition play an important role in my teaching. My goal is to help students not only solve problems correctly but also understand why the methods work.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have a math degree from Carleton College (cum laude), where I worked in the Math Skills Center and completed coursework including Mathematical Structures and Abstract Algebra. Later, I earned graduate degrees from Duke and Indiana University. I help computer science and math students master formal logic, truth tables, proof by induction, combinatorics, set theory, and graph theory. I focus on helping students break down abstract proofs into clear, structured steps.
Econometrics

Econometrics

I earned my MPP from Duke University, where I completed PhD-level Econometrics (ECON 608D), and my BA in Mathematics from Carleton College, where I completed Linear Algebra (MATH 232). At Duke, I served as a graduate teaching assistant for MPP Statistics, covering causal inference and empirical methods including multiple linear regression, logistic regression, instrumental variables, difference-in-differences, piecewise regression, and regression discontinuity. I have worked with software tools like Stata, R, and SAS to help econometrics students code models, verify assumptions, interpret empirical output, and understand the underlying statistical logic.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I help young learners build strong numerical fluency and foundational problem-solving skills in a low-pressure environment. Visual thinking is very important to me. By focusing on visual models, intuitive arithmetic, and clear word-problem strategies, I help elementary students master core classroom standards. My goal is to foster genuine math confidence early on so students transition seamlessly into higher-level coursework.
Finite Math

Finite Math

My Finite Math foundation includes Probability (MATH 265) and Set Theory (including Cantor's Diagonal Argument) at Carleton College, a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics from Indiana University, and Energy Economics and Policy (ENVIRON 635) at Duke University. Through this training and my experience in corporate FP&A at Procter & Gamble, I have applied linear programming, decision analysis under uncertainty (such as Maximin and Minimax strategies), net present value, and Monte Carlo risk modeling using tools like Excel, @RISK, and Python. Currently, I build Python forecasting models utilizing probability mass functions for real-world events. I help students solve systems of linear equations, navigate set theory, apply matrix algebra, and execute optimization models.
French

French

I'm an American who has studied French since 1998, earned a DALF C1 certification at the Alliance Française in New York City, lived and worked in a Francophone country, and read classic literature ranging from Le Petit Prince to Les Misérables. My tutoring adapts to each student's goals, whether they're learning French for travel, professional opportunities, personal enrichment, or a future move to a Francophone country such as Canada. Lessons typically focus on conversational fluency, essential grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary expansion. Rather than relying on rigid memorization, I help students express themselves naturally, understand underlying patterns, navigate false cognates, and build confidence in both speaking and writing.
Geometry

Geometry

I am a former high school Geometry teacher with a math degree from Carleton College and graduate degrees from Duke and Indiana University. My tutoring adapts directly to each student's needs and curriculum, typically covering coordinate geometry, triangle congruence, geometric proofs, circle theorems, and spatial reasoning. Rather than just memorizing formulas or steps, I help students love the problem, not the solution, learning to visualize spatial relationships and construct logical arguments with confidence.
GMAT

GMAT
