About Albert

Bio

I specialize in SAT Math and AP Calculus, and I also tutor the courses that lead into them: algebra, geometry, and precalculus. I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley, so I bring strong foundations in math and enough applied experience to explain why any of it matters.

I've been tutoring since 2022, working with students from middle school through twelfth grade in one-on-one sessions and small groups. That ranges from AP Calculus and SAT Math down to math placement exam prep. I build a custom plan for each student, including the materials. I write my own practice sets and homework around the mistakes a particular student is actually making, rather than working through whatever comes next in the textbook.

My focus is on building real understanding, not memorizing formulas. The SAT punishes students who only recognize question types, so we spend our time on why a method works and when it applies. I often have students explain their reasoning back to me. That's where the actual gap shows up, and it's faster than assigning more problems and hoping something sticks. Whether you're aiming for an 800 or just trying to get through the year, I tailor each session to your level. I'm also bilingual in English and Mandarin.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley, and I have tutored math since 2022 in both one-on-one sessions and small groups. Algebra 1 is where most later math problems start, because a student who never really understood what a variable represents or why you can do the same thing to both sides will keep paying for it through precalculus and calculus. I work with middle and high school students on math placement exams as well, so I see exactly which Algebra 1 gaps show up later and I close those first. I write my own practice sets around the specific mistakes a student is making, and I have students explain their reasoning back to me so we catch misunderstandings instead of just correcting answers.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley, and I have tutored math since 2022 in both one-on-one sessions and small groups. Algebra 2 is the course everything downstream depends on, since exponentials, logarithms, and function transformations show up constantly on the SAT and again in calculus, and I teach both of those courses as well. That means I know which Algebra 2 topics a student will actually need later and which ones are worth spending extra time on now. I write my own practice sets around the specific mistakes a student is making, and I have students explain their reasoning back to me so we fix the misunderstanding rather than just the answer.
Calculus

Calculus

I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley. I have tutored AP Calculus AB and BC as well as high school and college level calculus since 2022, in both one-on-one sessions and small groups. Most students struggle with calculus not because the new material is hard, but because gaps in algebra and function behavior make every problem twice as expensive, so I diagnose that first and build practice sets around what a particular student is getting wrong. My focus is on why a method works and when it applies, which is what free-response questions actually test.
Geometry

Geometry

I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley, and I have tutored math since 2022 in both one-on-one sessions and small groups. Geometry trips up students who did fine in Algebra 1, usually because it is the first course that asks them to justify a claim rather than just compute an answer. I teach proofs as a matter of knowing what you are allowed to assume and what still needs support, which turns them from guesswork into a process a student can repeat. I also cover the coordinate geometry, transformations, and triangle relationships that reappear on the SAT, and I write my own practice sets around the specific places a student is getting stuck.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley, and I have tutored SAT Math since 2022 in both one-on-one sessions and small groups. The digital SAT is adaptive, so the second module a student sees depends on how the first one goes, which means early careless mistakes cost far more than they used to. I go through a student's practice tests question by question to separate genuine content gaps from timing and setup errors, since those two problems need completely different fixes. From there I build targeted practice sets around that student's specific weak areas rather than assigning full-length tests and hoping the score moves.
