My education background is in the arts, I have a BFA in Modern Dance and a BA in Linguistics from the University of Utah. As a student, I have always been dedicated to my education and seek to continue learning throughout my life. Although I may not be an expert in a certain area, I am able to commit to learning new skills and concepts in-depth. Throughout high school and college I maintained a high GPA and contributed thoroughly during in-class discussions.
My teaching experience is largely as a dance instructor (ages 10-20), however, these skills seamlessly transfer into tutoring and teaching academic subjects. I have been teaching dance for more than 5 years, and throughout my time as a teacher, I have developed many useful skills. I am skilled in deescalating frustrations in students, finding new ways to keep them interested and motivated, and exploring new ways to explain concepts to ensure understanding. I believe that being an educator is more than teaching the concepts, it is teaching life skills - using your resources, setting goals, problem solving/critical thinking, etc.
In addition to my direct teaching experience and advanced education, I have personally helped my peers pass their college-level classes. My former roommate struggled in mathematics while my partner struggled in writing classes. I was able to guide them through their assignments in a way that allowed them to fully understand the concepts, rather than using me as a crutch in their education.
