I have been tutoring since 2016, when I began supporting underserved AVID students as a high school junior. This early experience helping peers understand foundational math concepts inspired me to begin privately tutoring Algebra and Geometry for advanced middle schoolers. I continued this work during college at the University of Washington, where I earned degrees in Neuroscience and Biochemistry with a minor in Bioethics. There, I expanded my tutoring through peer mentorship and as Academic Chair of my STEM organization, where I led group and one-on-one tutoring in introductory science courses. I developed problem sets, administered mock exams, and recruited subject-specific tutors to broaden the organization’s educational offerings. These experiences solidified my ability to teach biology, chemistry, and algebra using conceptual frameworks, visual tools, and Socratic questioning to target each student’s learning style.

My tutoring spans students from middle school through post-graduate levels, in both volunteer and professional capacities. From 2019 to 2023, I volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club in Seattle and Silicon Valley, helping underserved students with science and math coursework. After graduating in 2022, I worked as a professional tutor, accumulating over 1500 hours of experience in biology, chemistry, and math. I’ve also mentored pre-medical students, guiding them through MCAT prep, personal statement writing, and application strategy. My students have gained admittance to schools like Mt. Sinai, University of Pittsburgh, USF Morsani, and UIC. Whether I’m helping a middle schooler build algebraic intuition or supporting a medical school applicant through high-stakes, impactful writing, I center patience, trust, and tailored strategies in every session.

MCAT

MCAT

My high MCAT score secured acceptance into two of the most competitive medical schools KPSOM (~0.4%) and UWSOM OOR (0.3%) and my extensive experience tutoring guides my use of diagnostic assessments to pinpoint each student’s unique strengths and weaknesses. I design customized study plans incorporating concept mapping, spaced repetition, and timed practice passages to maximize learning efficiency and retention. This tailored approach has helped students achieve scores well above the 90th percentile by fostering strong relationships, leveraging deep conceptual understanding, and instilling essential test-taking stamina.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I’m currently a full-ride (tuition + stipend) MD student at Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine and earned a $200K+ tuition waiver to UWSOM as an out-of-region applicant (0.3% acceptance). During undergrad I held merit and research-based scholarships in biochemistry, neuropsychopharmacology, and bioethics, experiences that sharpened my ability to articulate academic and personal achievements. I guide applicants through medical school and scholarship personal statements by crafting authentic narratives that highlight their strengths and align with each program’s mission. My clients have gained admission to competitive schools such as Mt. Sinai, University of Pittsburgh, USF Morsani, UIC Chicago, and University of Arizona.

Immediate game changer, we clicked right away

I only had one MCAT session with Alex so far, but it made a big difference. I came in struggling with how to approach passages, especially in Chem/Phys, and he broke things down in a way that finally clicked. It wasn’t just about content. He focused on test-taking strategy, how to actually think through the questions, and what patterns to look for. That alone helped me feel more confident about my approach. What stood out was how calm and clear he was. He didn’t waste time overloading me with info, but instead focused on a few key shifts that I could implement right away. You can tell he really knows the exam inside and out. And the fact that he’s a med student at Kaiser gave me even more confidence in his advice. Even from one session, I got more useful insight than I’ve gotten from weeks of studying alone. I’m definitely planning to book more.
