About Henry

Bio

Hi, I'm Henry! I am a college student studying math at Caltech (4.00 GPA). I love math, but it can be very challenging and frustrating for many people, even for me at times. The best parts of math are when you can have an exciting moment of discovery, noticing a connection between different topics or a clever way to find a solution. I think that doing math is actually an incredibly creative art, but in school, it can often feel boring and repetitive.

In my tutoring, I hope I can help you...

In my tutoring, I hope I can help you to experience those exciting moments. I try to introduce topics, so that the student can discover the result themself, instead of just being told a formula. Of course, it's also important to do many practice problems and examples to understand anything well. Since I was a first-year high school student, I have been tutoring other students. I have experience tutoring advanced students, peer tutoring at my high school, helping students work on individual projects at a summer program, tutoring at math circle, and tutoring students who are struggling and need extra help. I am also a volunteer math tutor for high school students at the Rise program here at Caltech.

I can help with any math topic, from adding fractions, to calculus, to math olympiads. I got a perfect 1600 on the SAT, so I can also help teach test-taking skills for similar standardized tests.

Computer Science

I am a mathematics and computer science major at Caltech, and I've taken many computer science classes. I've taken both theoretical classes like discrete math, algebraic complexity theory, and applied programming classes like object-oriented programming in Java, functional programming in Haskell, and automated theorem proving in Coq. I have even done undergraduate research in theoretical computer science. I have also tutored high school students in computer science as a volunteer as part of Caltech's Rise Program.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I'm a mathematics and computer science major at Caltech, and I have taken several discrete math classes. I've taken an introductory discrete math class that covers mathematical logic, search algorithms, and some basic graph theory as well as a graduate level combinatorial analysis class in Ramsey and extremal graph theory. I've also helped tutor younger students at Caltech in discrete math classes as part of the peer academic tutoring program.
