I love helping students develop their writing skills, craft thoughtful essays and read critically. I enjoy sharing my passion for literature and giving students the tools they need to become strong writers. I am happy to tutor students with any aspect of English class whether it be understanding grammar, analyzing literary texts, mastering new vocabulary or navigating the writing process.

I grew up in Southern California and received my bachelor's degree in English Literature and Public Relations from USC. Additionally, I have a Master's Degree in Teaching from Occidental College and a Master's Degree in Art History from the University of Washington. After five years of classroom teaching, I worked in a museum as an assistant curator where I wrote label text and designed educational programming for their European art collections.

I am available for on-going tutoring or if you only need help with a specific assignment. Please feel free to contact me with questions, share your learning needs, or schedule a lesson. I welcome the opportunity to work with students of all backgrounds and identities.

Art History

Art History

At the University of Washington, I taught several sections of introductory art history survey courses while working on my master's degree. Additionally, I have worked as an assistant curator in the European Art collections at The Huntington. As a high school teacher, I helped students prepare for the AP Art History exam. I can provide useful strategies for slide identification responses and writing art historical research papers. I am particularly enthusiastic about Post World War II French art and modern art in general, but I am also happy to work with you on any area of art history you are studying.
English

English

I have taught students from grades 6-12 at both public and private schools. I enjoy helping students to think critically through close reading of literary texts. I am a passionate writer and have excellent prewriting and drafting strategies that provide students with useful tools to organize their ideas. I know the common grammatical errors English teachers see at these grade levels and can help students so they do not feel defeated by grammar mistakes in their written assignments. I also use context clues, comparison/contrast, roots and many other methods to improve and build vocabulary.
ISEE

ISEE

I learned effective ISEE test-taking strategies from a well-regarded, private tutoring company. As part of my training, I took many practice tests to familiarize myself with the structure and common pitfalls students may fall for on the test. I incorporate these tools as well as my experience as a credentialed English teacher to tutor students for the ISEE. I have worked with students on all three levels of the ISEE (upper: grades 8-11, middle: grades 6-7, and lower: grades 4-5) for entrance into independent/private schools. I have a curriculum of tools and strategies for each section (mathematics achievement, verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, and the essay). I help students practice for the essay because it is sometimes challenging to write under timed conditions. In addition, I have helped students understand the scoring of the exam so they are aware of what they need to do in order to improve their scores.
Literature

Literature

I am a credentialed English teacher specializing in British literature and art history. I have a master’s degree in education and art history. I have worked as a curriculum specialist in museums and in the classroom.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have extensive experience proofreading and editing student essays, personal statements for high school and college applications, resumes, articles, newsletters, and creative writing. I have published for museums and non-profit organizations so I know the importance of clear, polished writing. I can help you develop your own self-editing skills in spelling, punctuation, grammar and other writing conventions.
Reading

Reading

I love to help students not only understand and comprehend what they are reading, but also to learn from and connect with it so they become engaged readers. At the middle and high school level, I can help students with close reading to develop more thoughtful literary analysis. In the elementary grades, I can provide strategies to develop reading accuracy and fluency.
Writing

Writing

I have taught both middle and high school English. During my teaching career, I attended professional development seminars on effective writing and used these strategies to support students in my teaching and tutoring. I truly enjoy helping students discover how they can develop insightful details in their essays, hook readers with strong introductions, and effectively revise and edit their writing.
