With 40 years of experience as an illustrator and art director, I have worked for many of the major studios, educational products companies, toy companies, and apparel companies creating licensed and original characters, character style guides and apparel lines. For the past twenty years to the present, I have been the creative director working with Tommy Bahama on their graphic T line. In all of these ventures, I have used my talent in drawing and sense of humor to bring characters to life. Additionally, I have been the cartoonist for the Palos Verdes Peninsula News for twenty years and I have published a book featuring many of these award-winning cartoons.
My college experience at Occidental College led to a career in commercial art and illustration and as an artist married to a veteran teacher, I have had the opportunity to lead art workshops in the Palos Verdes Peninsula School District for over twenty five years. Teaching elementary students the step-by-step basics of drawing and character creation has been extremely rewarding. My involvement in the PVPUSD "Arts Alive" program has developed into small art workshops out of my home focusing on drawing, cartooning, caricature development and illustration. Additionally, this experience has deepened my passion for teaching the basics of drawing and creating original characters to young students in a world that is increasingly technologically savvy, but lacking in artists who can actually hand draw.
