Bio

About me: I just got my PhD in pure math (algebraic and complex geometry) from UC Davis in December 2019, and I’ve been remote tutoring while I apply for postdocs. Teaching math, especially upper division courses, is one of my true passions, and I feel very lucky that I get to do it every day! When I'm not teaching or doing my research I like to run in the California mountains, bake bread, and play guitar/piano.

Qualifications: I was a TA and full instructor at Davis for 6.5 years while I was a grad student, and I’ve been tutoring upper division math for 9 years. I really love teaching, and I received two teaching awards while at UCD! One of the highlights of my grad school experience was getting to teach my own classes during the summers. I taught Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, and Number Theory and it was so much fun!!

The Tutoring: With my current students I usually help with homework and studying for exams, talk through material from the lectures/books, and just discuss how these courses fit into math in general. However I'm happy to structure the tutoring however you'd like! For example I recently had a super fun time teaching a speedy ring theory course over winter break to one of my students who needed to know the material before taking Galois theory.

Logistics: I’ve been doing Zoom tutoring since March 2020 using my iPad, and it's been working very well! But if you prefer a different platform, I'm happy to branch out!

Undergraduate: Intro to Proofs, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Point-set Topology, Number Theory, Differential Geometry, Set Theory.

Graduate: Algebra, Algebraic Geometry, Category Theory, Algebraic Topology, Differential Topology and Geometry, Functional Analysis, Complex Analysis.

Feel free to contact me at any time and we can set up a tutoring session! Best wishes and I hope you have a good and safe semester!

Highly competent and patient tutor

Nate was very fluent in differential geometry, more particularly in Riemannian Geometry. Given his broad spectrum of knowledge over many (advanced) mathematical disciplines, discussing with him was very inspiring. I hope to take more lessons with him.
