Hello. I'm Paul A. In my first career, I was a scientist (microbiology) but I gradually got into information technology and information systems. In every job I've had, I discovered that I needed to use Microsoft Excel and that it was a great advantage to be able to do so. Over the course of more than 25 years, I've built a significant level of expertise using Excel and its self-contained programming language VBA (macros).
I've helped and tutored several business colleagues to understand the ins and outs of Excel and to raise their comfort level and effectiveness in its use.
I've taught an online course in Excel and an in-person course in VBA at UC Berkeley. Finally, on a volunteer basis, I've taught Excel to a person for whom English is a second language.
My approach to teaching is
1.Teach and provide examples of the material.
2.Provide 1 or 2 problems / questions to work through for the following session
3.At the following session, review what the student has done and discuss and resolve any difficulties the student has had
I am friendly, approachable, and supportive. Most important, I always remember and understand how learning a technical subject can seem daunting until you’ve actually tried it. I can make the process less painful, and even enjoyable.
