I have an MA in math from State University of New York and an MS in computers from Case Institute of Technology. Besides 25 years of software experience, I have taught part-time in the math and computer science department at San Jose State University. I love to see my students understand the principles and apply them to solving problems and will try different ways to make these clear to them, depending on their ability and background.

"I have been tutored by Mr. T. for almost a year now, and I have seen great advancements in my aptitude for, and confidence in, mathematics. He not only has taught me math concepts, but he also has cared for me as a student through his genuine encouragement and utmost patience. This past junior year, Mr. T. has tutored me in AP Calculus AB. Prior to his tutelage, I have always struggled to maintain a math grade that my efforts deserved. Approaching AP Calculus AB without the incredible help from Mr. T. would have been an inevitably hopeless situation for me. I would have given up right from the start, but Mr. T. had guided me through the blatant difficulties and intricate nuances of calculus. By the end of the year, I transformed a low B grade to an A grade, thanks to Mr. T.'s support and belief in my abilities. Peter is a very experienced, knowledgeable teacher, who takes pride in his work and tries to help out his students in many different ways, even outside of the in-person tutoring sessions. He is also very flexible and understanding when it comes to changes in the schedule. Peter has helped me to succeed in my Calculus II college course and improve my grade dramatically. Peter has been tutoring our daughter in Algebra 2 honors. He is very patient and thorough! He truly seems to care about the learning experience and is an excellent teacher. Peter is very knowledgeable when it comes to Discrete Mathematics. He takes time to go through the examples in the text book step by step and demystifies the overly complicated with real time explanations that just make sense. I've used him for two 2 hour sessions so far and it has helped me overcome my difficulties with the subject. Highly recommended.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught intermediate algebra to students from different ages and background for many quarters and understand the difficulties the students may have and how to help them to think in math and learn the computation skills as well.
I have taught and tutored algebra 2 for many quarters to college students and know how to make the concepts and skills clear and easy for the students to understand.
I have been teaching local HS students in AP Calculus for the last 2 years with good responses and results. Besides helping the students to master all the required prerequisite math skills, I try to give the students the intuitive reasoning capability that comes from a deeper understanding of the nature of the subject.
I have taught and tutored geometry in algebra and calculus classes for many quarters to college students and know how to make the concepts and skills clear and easy for the students to understand.
I have taught pre-algebra to young students for several years and understand well how to help them to think in math and learn the computation skills
I have aced my SAT Math test as well as SAT Math subject test. I believe the way to improve on the SAT Math performance is to systematically work on and improve the underlying math and logic in working the problems. Over a period of time, this will improve both the performance on SAT Math as well as one's Math ability.
I am helping a number of 10th grade students in algebra and trigonometry (honors) at Paly and Gunn, and my approach is to help them with their basic understanding as well as the reasoning ability in solving problems. The aim is to increase their self confidence as well as their performance when they have to solve trigonometry problems.
