In graduate school, I studied linguistics theories, Chinese phonetics, vocabulary structure, grammar, Chinese history, culture and teaching pedagogy. Studying equipped me with professional knowledge. Based on this, I focus on improving my teaching skills to make my teaching efficient and engaged.

Since 2005, I have taught Chinese in classrooms and one-on-one tutorials at all levels. Students range in age from 3 to over 70 years old. I have experience teaching both beginners and advanced language level.

Based on the needs of the students, I can teach Chinese with English explanations or in a Chinese immersion environment with limited English spoken.

With my teaching approach, I focus on teaching students all around skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing by following the Chinese language logic so that they can develop a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to move forward with Chinese language learning. The course will introduce Chinese culture seasonally to promote language learning.

Teaching activity revolves around the teaching plan and learning target to make sure the class is efficient for every period. Teaching plan will be customized based on individuals and adapted based on the student’s needs.

I can tutor students for the Chinese AP test, and the HSK (a standardized test to non-native speakers administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education for Chinese language proficiency).

Besides Chinese teaching, I am also a trained Montessori teacher for children aged three to six years old. Whenever I teach young learners, I implement Montessori philosophy and teaching methods in order to keep them engaged.
