I graduated from MIT with a Bachelor’s degree in pure mathematics and will begin working on my Ph.D. in the subject at the University of Chicago this fall. In my experience mentoring students, I have observed that while many students may easily master the algorithmic procedures that are necessary to solve math problems, they may not understand the motivation behind why a problem can be solved with a particular method and how that method came to fruition in the first place. On the other hand, it is also common for a student to be uncertain about how to set up solutions to more open-ended problems. Having studied and conducted research in pure math, I can recall countless situations where I struggled with both of these types of problems. I am always delighted to apply the skills I acquired in dealing with such situations to assisting students in overcoming similar challenges.
I have been tutoring students of all ages in a variety of subjects for six years now, from middle school algebra to college-level math classes such as real analysis, linear algebra, and differential geometry. Although I mostly tutor students one-on-one, I have also taught college recitation sections and hosted office hours as a teaching assistant in the past. I am receptive to student feedback regarding various aspects of my teaching, especially my pace and the degree of rigor in my explanations. I am more than happy to provide students with supplemental materials pertaining to our lessons, including notes and exercises. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested in scheduling a lesson with me or have any questions or concerns regarding my tutoring style or policies.
