After 15 years of teaching in the French/English dual-language program of a high-performing NYC public elementary school, I'm now available to support multilingual learners in person in the Bay Area of Northern California, and remotely everywhere else.
My priority is to find the play in the hard work of learning. Questioning and reflection are at the heart of my teaching practice: setting my students up to draw their own conclusions about new concepts, and guiding them to take ownership of their learning. I personalize my instruction to meet their interests and needs, often creating new activities that will engage and challenge each learner.
Music has been an integral part of my life since childhood, studying piano, cello, and classical voice, and performing in musicals, operas, and concerts in the New York region. With these experiences and my years in elementary education, I have developed an age-appropriate and multi-sensory method of introducing classical music to children.
I graduated magna cum laude from NYU with a B.S in Teaching French as a foreign language. I earned an M.A. in Bilingual and Bicultural Education from Teachers College/Columbia. For 15 years, I taught K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in a New York City dual-language program, teaching 50% of content in French and 50% in English to mixed groups of native French speakers and students who were learning French through immersion. During that time I also created and taught an innovative French and language-awareness program in Pre-K through 2nd grade, and I offered academic intervention in French and English in grades K through 5.
I'm available to support young readers in English and French, and to help emergent French and English speakers in strengthening their vocabulary and confidence. I especially love making math accessible to kids who have struggled in the past. I build strong relationships with my students and their families, and I offer supplementary resources and support to caregivers who want to set their children up for success.
