About Keren

Bio

I studied math at UCLA and received my teaching credential from Cal State Los Angeles. I have been a math teacher for five years and a math tutor for eight years. I enjoy teaching students one-on-one and kindling their natural curiosity and interest in exploring on their own. My aim is to inspire students to strengthen their mental fortitude and stamina in math, something that will give them a leg up and help them to fulfill their dreams.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have a strong background in algebra, I studied linear algebra and abstract algebra at UCLA. I have taught algebra in elementary school and in high school and have helped many students understand topics such as word problems, rational expressions, functions and equations. My tutoring methods include demonstrating different ways of solving a problem, using manipulatives to help students understand for example, the concept of a monomial, binomial, and polynomial, and diagrams to help students understand for example, the Pythagorean Theorem.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a strong background in algebra, I studied linear algebra and abstract algebra at UCLA. I have taught algebra in elementary school and in high school and have helped many students understand topics such as the Product, Power, and Quotient rules for exponents, square roots and radical expressions, and the quadratic formula. My tutoring methods include demonstrating different ways of solving a problem, using manipulatives to help students understand for example, the concept of multiplying binomials, and graphs to help students understand the concepts of conic sections.
Calculus

Calculus

I have taught AP Calculus AB at Champs Charter High School of the Arts in the past two years. My students have earned the score of 3 out of 5 and 4 out of 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught geometry in elementary school and in high school, and have helped many students understand geometry topics such as congruent triangles, circles, polygons, surface area, and volume. My tutoring methods include rewriting definitions as "if ... then" statements and making sure the "if" parts match up with the previous statements, and the "then" parts match up with the current statements, when doing proofs so we know our logic is airtight. In addition, my methods include using diagrams to help students understand for example, the properties of circles, and using real world examples to help students understand geometry topics like symmetry, reflections, and rotations.
Hebrew

Hebrew

Hebrew is my native language, and I speak, read and write in Hebrew fluently. I taught Hebrew at a synagogue for two years. In addition, I taught my daughters Hebrew through literature.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I completed a course in Linear Algebra and Applications, and Abstract Linear Algebra at UCLA. I earned 54 units of mathematics at UCLA. Additionally, I have a Single Subject Teaching Credential in math.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have a strong background in Prealgebra. I have taught Prealgebra in elementary school and in high school and have helped many students understand topics such as factors and multiples, ratios and proportions, and exponents and radicals. My tutoring methods include demonstrating different ways of solving a problem, using manipulatives to help students understand for example, the concept of an equation, and diagrams to help students understand for example, the concept of absolute value and quadrants of the coordinate plane.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have a strong background in Precalculus, I studied Precalculus at UCLA. I have helped many students understand topics such as Gaussian elimination, matrices, and Cramer's rule. My tutoring methods include demonstrating different ways of solving a problem, and using graphs to help students understand, for example, the applications of the parabola in the sciences.

Very Easy To Work With!

Keren has been a wonderful tutor for both of my children in pre-Algebra and Geometry. She is punctual, reliable and easy going and breaks down the concepts to make more difficult multi-step problems seem easier. She explains things in a soft, patient, accessible manner that makes math seem easier and more fun. I definitely recommend Keren!
