About Pam

Having earned a UCLA Certificate in College Counseling (with distinction), I am here to supply expert advice and assist you every step of the way in the college process. My areas of expertise include freshman applicants, transfer students, international admissions, graduate school applicants, performing arts students, and those with special needs. By sharing my knowledge and experience, students and their families can make informed life decisions that will save money and the possible need to transfer. We start by identifying your goals and dreams. We then chart a course that will best maximize your chances of reaching that aim. I also construct a timeline so that critical deadlines will not be missed. My assistance in the college process includes, but is not limited to, forming a targeted balanced list of schools (taking into account admission chances), editing and brainstorming for compelling and winning college essays, application assistance, scholarship search, assistance with financial forms, transfer college help, planning a college tour, mock interviews, curriculum and extracurricular advice to maximize your chances of admission, and standardized test prep guidance (SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement Exams, and SAT II Subject Tests). As an employee of a test-prep company, I am well informed on standardized tests. I am committed to helping each and every student realize success in the college process by putting in the extra effort it takes to be meticulous in detail, creative in writing the essays, and smart in forming an admission strategy.

Although I have a cancellation policy, I am flexible in scheduling makeup lessons. I am anxious to meet with you and help you on your college journey!

I will keep you organized through constant reminders, frequent meetings, emails, and phone calls. I am always available for questions and support.

It was my pleasure help your nephew on his applications. Transferring from community college can be a tricky process, especially when under the stress of attending classes at the same time. I was glad to be able to accommodate your nephew and know that he will be successful in the transfer process. Thank you too for making me feel so comfortable in your home! Best,Pam

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

In the UCLA College Counseling Program we studied exploring career choices and identifying college majors. We worked with students that were undecided about a career path and helped them to decide on their goals.

I am knowledgeable on different psychological testing such as Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs, and Keirsey Temperament Sorter among other methods to determine appropriate career paths. I also use College Board's Big Future Tool and Book of Majors to match schools and programs in addition to other methods.

College Counseling

I earned my UCLA Certificate (with distinction) in College Counseling in 2011. It included a 65 hour Practicum completed at Malibu High School in their College Office. I have been successfully counseling students independently for the past 7 years ( transfers, freshman, and international students), helping them find a career direction and navigate the college application process.

I maintain active membership in HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association) and WACAC (Western Association of College Admission Counselors) and practice the highest ethics. I have my B.A in Psychology and M.S. in Public Policy from Stony Brook University. I am also familiar with scholarship search and applying for financial aid.

Study Skills

I have a B.A. in psychology, M.S. in urban and policy sciences and a certificate in college counseling from UCLA. I work with students throughout the daunting task of applying to colleges, keeping students organized, adhering to deadlines, and breaking down the process into simple manageable steps. This is very much the same for study skills. I have guided two of my own children through Harvard-Westlake school and now through USC.

Writing

I have tutored elementary age to college level students on writing, structuring an essay, writing research reports, and creative storytelling. With a gift for finding a student's creative voice, I supply the necessary technical skills to make their writing more concise, clear, and error-free. With patience and a sense of humor, I strive to make the process enjoyable.
