Hi I'm Sharon. I have been a Wyzant top 10% tutor for the past three years. I graduated with a Masters in Advertising and Communications and BS in Communications from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I have always loved to write. After college, I worked in the advertising industry at two large international advertising agencies for a total of 22 years. As a Vice President Account Director, branding and communication skills, writing, messaging, speaking and giving feedback were critical to the success of my agency and client teams. Later I ventured into serving as a marketing consultant and corporate newsletter editor.

For the past eleven years I have been consulting with high school and college students on their undergraduate and graduate applications, essays and resumes/CVs. I also work with hundreds of students both in the U.S. and internationally through Wyzant's platform. My favorite thing is guiding students through brainstorming and landing on an essay topic that they are truly excited to write about and differentiates them beyond their resume and in the eye's of the reader. The essay must have an engaging hook, be focused (depth versus breadth), show and tell and fully address the prompt. It must paint a picture of the student and how they think and have grown. I also enjoy helping counsel students on the college application process, including dimensionalizing activities, building a resume and obtaining effective recommendation letters. Many of my students have also contacted me to guide them in their academic writing assignments.
