College Instructor for 14 years in the Behavioral Sciences

I have been teaching at a local community college for the last 14 years. My primary field is in Political Science where I teach history, government, English, grammar, writing, research skills, and a variety of other academic skills. I love engaging with people who are curious and motivated to better themselves. Teaching is an incredible opportunity to synthesize and disseminate information in a clear and concise way that helps others.

Along with the academic experience I have, I also have been studying and teaching basic skills at the college for the last three years. I teach workshops about how to write a research paper, how to properly format papers in APA or MLA formats, how to efficiently read a textbook , how to study for a test, how to reduce test anxiety, how to manage time effectively, how to properly use quotes and source material, how to avoid plagiarism, and how to deal with stress.

Not only have been a teacher for 14 years, I also homeschooled my three boys through K-12. I was motivated as a mom to learn every strategy that would help my kids learn to articulate the English language properly.

I was a student for long time and I have been a teacher for a long time. I was required to hone my academic skills as I taught them to others. I spend an prodigious amount of time writing curriculum, grading college level papers and teaching students how to be successful college writers.

I am an effective teacher because I care about using time wisely and getting to the heart of the matter. I can see trouble areas and know how to help mitigate for them. I am passionate about what I do and excited to help those who want to be better researchers, writers, editors, and students.
