Hi there! I'm a graduate from Cal State Fullerton with a Bachelors degree in mathematics and a minor in business administration. I have extensive knowledge in a variety of math subjects, including:
- Algebra 1 & II
- Pre Calculus
- Calculus 1 - 4
- AP Calculus
- Differential equations
- Multivariable calculus
- Linear algebra
- Entry level probability.
- SAT Math
- GRE Math
I have been a math tutor since August 2004 and have tutored every subject listed above.
I find the most effective teaching methods are those in which the tutor makes every effort to relate to the student's thought processes. I actively listen to my students' needs and work efficiently with them to ensure they are understanding every aspect of a problem. I do not proceed forward with any material until the student has displayed a solid grasp of the problem at hand. This ensures a productive and positive learning environment, and permits the most efficient use of time.
I had some challenges with math as a high school student, particularly with algebra and calculus. But, thanks to some patient teachers, I learned and mastered those concepts that I had the most difficulty with, and I am now able to give back to others through teaching. One of the most helpful approaches in tutoring that I have found is the ability to approach the explanation of a given problem through multiple examples, using different scenarios to help the student gain a better grasp of the subject.
These are the methods I have used throughout my years of tutoring, and they have proven to be highly successful. I have watched my students excel in mathematics and go on to exceptional universities, such as Duke and UCLA. I am confident in the subjects I tutor, and I look forward to helping every student reach his or her fullest potential. Hi there! My son has had Farid for the past two months and I have seen improvement on his grade already. Farid is a very patient tutor and he is the kind that does not give the student the answers right away but, instead, he leads the student to think and guides him to resolve the problems. I think this a great quality to a tutor. Farid is also very flexible on our schedule, he always tries to accommodate my son's needs. I am glad that we picked Farid on the long list of available tutors on the site.
My son likes him as his tutor, I normally checked and asked my son if Farid was OK to be his tutor and he said "yes Mom, he is very good". That answered my question.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
