I'm currently an employee for the private tutoring franchise, Mathnasium. I have an Undergraduate degree in Physics from Chapman University and I am currently looking to earn my Masters in either Pure Mathematics or Applied Mathematics. I have roughly 5 years of tutoring experience. This includes tutoring for Santiago Community College for about 1 year while I was attending there, and my Mathnasium experience which is about 4 years. I am most suited for teaching from middle school algebra all the way up to community college level mathematics such as Calculus and Linear Algebra.
Through my experience of tutoring across a wide range of math and grade levels I've developed a skill which allows me to adapt to the students math and grade level so that I will not bog them down with unexplained jargon that many math teachers find themselves doing to students. I understand how to explain each topic at the level they should know, and if I feel that it is appropriate, I will provide additional insight on that topic to strengthen their understanding. I try to strike balance between directly teaching the student and asking the student questions so that they arrive to a particular conclusion on their own. I have a bias towards the latter because it allows the student to create the connections themselves and engages them more in the learning process which will lead to a better understanding of the topic and longer time of information retention.
