Dear Potential Students and Families,

I am a music educator and performer currently teaching 4th and 5th grade band and general music within the San Diego Unified School District. My educational background includes degrees from Oberlin College, Rice University, HfMDK Frankfurt, and University of California San Diego. Throughout my studies and professional career, I have worked with outstanding musicians, educators, and students from around the world. These experiences have shaped my commitment to making music education engaging, meaningful, and accessible for all learners.

A major focus of my graduate education and professional life has been supporting students through inclusive and community-centered music programs. In addition to teaching in public schools, I have served as an Associate Instructor within the UC San Diego Music/Culture, Art, and Technology Department, working with undergraduate and graduate students in both academic writing, research, and musical settings. I have also taught as a low brass clinician in local schools and as an itinerant music teacher throughout San Diego Unified.

As a tutor, I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence. Whether working with beginners, advanced musicians, or students needing help with academic music subjects, I tailor lessons to each student’s goals and learning style. My aim is to help students build strong musical foundations while also developing creativity, confidence, and enjoyment in music.

Approved Subjects

Music History

Music History

I teach music history with an emphasis on connecting historical context, musical analysis, and listening skills to deepen students’ understanding of music across time periods and cultures. I hold a PhD from University of California San Diego and have experience teaching music history and music theory at the post-secondary level. Lessons explore major composers, stylistic developments, cultural influences, and historical movements while helping students strengthen critical thinking and analytical skills. I tailor instruction to each student’s interests and academic goals, whether they are preparing for coursework, exams, research, or personal enrichment.
Music Production

Music Production

Through my higher education teaching experience, I have instructed more than 200 undergraduate students and 15 graduate instructional assistants in courses including Popular Electronica (MUS 15) and Electronic Music (MUS 6) over seven years of collegiate teaching. I also possess extensive experience with microphone setup and audio production software, including Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Soundtrap, Audacity, and Logic Pro, which I regularly use in recording and producing my own music. My music has been performed in recitals and performances internationally in Germany and locally in San Diego.
Trombone

Trombone

I maintain a small studio and enjoy teaching brass instruments (trombone, trumpet, euphonium, tuba) to beginner and intermediate players in Southern California. With over 15 years of experience teaching privately in public schools and preparatory colleges, many of my students have gone on to pursue music professionally. My former trombone students have been recruited by the Fred Fox School of Music at The University of Arizona, Sam Houston School of Music, San Diego State University, and Moores School of Music in Houston. I have four performance degrees with emphasis on low brass performance and have played in venues like Carnegie Hall and Philharmonie Berlin.
