Through my time teaching I’ve learned that I need to ask questions, listen, and understand how my students are viewing the concepts we’re studying. I then support my students in articulating for themselves what makes sense, what is contradictory, and what is vague or disconnected in their understanding. Then, we can work together to make things make sense! I use a lot of visuals and physical objects/movements to make abstract ideas concrete. My experience with teaching and learning is that to understand, we need to relate new concepts to concepts we are already very familiar with…and the more robust connections we can make, the better we can model our new ideas and use them to make accurate predictions.

Educational background: I graduated from UC Berkeley summa cum laude with a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and a Teaching Credential in Secondary Foundational Science and Biology.

I prefer in-person tutoring, and am happy to come to you! I’m looking forward to learning together :)

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have completed precalculus, plus 3 semesters of college calculus while maintaining a 4.0. I tutored algebra for 2 years.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I completed precalculus and 3 semesters of calculus in college while maintaining a 4.0. In high school, I struggled a lot with algebra two, and only began to appreciate the beauty of math in calculus. Recently, after years of teaching, I've taken a deep dive back into Algebra 2 and Precalculus, and I can now see the underlying principles that I missed when I was a student. I'm really excited to support students who might be struggling as I was, to see the patterns and understand the logic so that the math becomes simple.
Biology

Biology

Graduated Summa Cum Laude from UC Berkeley with Major in Cell and Molecular Biology. Biology Student of the Year at Ohlone College. Taught middle school science, including biology, for 8 years, including 2 years as a mentor teacher and 4 years as a lead teacher. Tutored Chemistry and Biology in college.
GED

GED

Graduated from UC Berkeley Summa Cum Laude, 8 years of teaching experience.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have completed precalculus, plus 3 semesters of college calculus while maintaining a 4.0. I recently did another dive into precalculus to deepen my knowledge, and really enjoy seeing the underlying connections between the disparate parts of math that show up in precalculus. I'm excited to support someone else in understanding this subject deeply!
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have completed precalculus, plus 3 semesters of college calculus while maintaining a 4.0. I recently did another dive into algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus to deepen my knowledge, and really enjoy seeing the patterns across math that show up in SAT math problems. As someone who used to struggle with these subjects, I look forward to supporting others in seeing the patterns and solving these puzzles!
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have completed precalculus, plus 3 semesters of college calculus while maintaining a 4.0. I recently did another dive into trigonometry to deepen my knowledge, and really enjoy how visual and tangible trigonometry is. I'm excited to support someone else in understanding this subject deeply!
