Learn to speak the second most widely spoken language in the world! I can help you reach your goals for learning to read, write, and speak in Spanish for students of all levels. I began my undergraduate studies at New York University and went on to graduate magna cum laude with a B.A. in both Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Washington. I have extensive experience working with high school and college aged youth as a counselor, tutor, and mentor.
Although not my first language, I speak and write in Spanish with near-native fluency. I am an energetic and creative teacher who loves to incorporate Latin American culture into the more daunting lessons of Spanish grammar, verb tenses, and conjugations. As an undergraduate, I spent extensive time studying, working, and living in both Argentina and Mexico. In Argentina, I spent nearly 9 months, first in an intensive Spanish immersion program and later as a direct exchange student studying Latin American literature and politics at a university in Buenos Aires. Recently, I spent 6 months interning in Mexico City, where I worked as an Educational Adviser. I have tutored Spanish at several alternative schools in the Seattle area, including the Fred Hutch School and First Place School. From my work and travel experiences, I bring a unique understanding of diverse Spanish dialects and regional linguistic differences to my tutoring. I am also a trained therapist with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and have received specialized training in working with the Latinx community. My teaching is rooted not only in the language but in the cultural elements of Spanish. Depending on your needs, I can expose you to specific regions, dialects, art, and culture.
I hope that I can bring my passion for the region into our Spanish lessons! While my experience is primarily with youth, I am happy to work with students of all ability and age levels and the young-at-heart. I understand the need for balance between fundamental grammar lessons and the need for conversation
