Hi! I'm Rebecca, and I'm passionate about helping students build confidence and skills in computer science. Whether you're writing your first line of code, learning Java, or building your first website, I'm here to guide you with patience and enthusiasm.
I'm currently pursuing my Master's in Computer Science at Northeastern University focusing on privacy and security, and I hold a BA from Williams College. I have over six years of professional software engineering experience, building web applications and working with Java, Python, JavaScript, React, and Django. This real-world experience means I can show you how programming concepts are actually used by professional developers.
I've been teaching programming since 2019, starting at First Step Coding in Boston where I taught introductory JavaScript, and most recently as a private instructor. I've worked with middle schoolers learning their first programming concepts, high school students building projects, college students working on coursework, and adult learners transitioning into tech. I believe anyone can learn to code with the right support.
My teaching philosophy is understanding over memorization. I customize sessions based on how you learn best—some students love visual diagrams while others prefer hands-on coding. I focus on teaching you how to think like a programmer and debug your own code so you build lasting skills. I create a supportive environment where questions are always welcome.
Whether you need help with Java, Python, web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React), debugging, or preparing for courses, I'm excited to work with you. Ready to start? Let's connect!
