Hello! My name is Violet, and I am a tutor with educational and work experience in graphic design, web design, animation, and game design and development. I have also worked as a mental health peer counselor and bring a trauma-informed lens to my work. I have a B.A. in multidisciplinary design, and graduated with honors from university. I have taught workshops on game development, and individually tutored folks in graphic design, web design, math, English, and biology. I have tutored individually at high school and college levels, and I have volunteered as a teacher's aide for primary school students, in addition to helping teach music to elementary school students.
I myself benefited greatly from tutoring in high school, and I strive to create a space where students can feel safe and supported asking questions. Additionally, I am very familiar with how at times unforgiving the school system can be, and how hard it can be to get individual students' needs met in larger classroom settings. I've found the most success in working together to find a learning style that "clicks" for each student, and I find that often practical demonstration and project-based practice can be key in solidifying new skills.
It's important to me that any space I'm working in be inclusive and welcoming. I know that the school system can be especially challenging for marginalized students, for neurodivergent students, for students who perhaps have had to change school districts for any reason. I want to make clear that my goal is always for all students to feel safe and welcome, and for their experiences, backgrounds, and identities to be respected.
