I'm Audrey! I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a BA in Liberal Studies and have worked as a first grade teacher since. I also tutor twice a week in the school setting teaching phonics and reading to striving students who need more support. I am currently working through the Lexia LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) comprehensive professional learning program which is designed to provide early childhood and elementary educators and administrators with deep knowledge to be literacy and language experts in the science of reading. I have lots of experience teaching phonics and reading instruction in the elementary classroom setting and I look forward to working with your student to better their understanding of the many components that are necessary to begin to read fluently.
During my initial tutoring session I will give a brief phonics assessment so I can better understand where we need to begin with phonics instruction. We may start with phonemic awareness, phonics instruction based on sound spelling patterns the student isn't familiar with, and then move forward with reading both decodables and leveled readers.
