I am a good tutor because I work well with people and am fun, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, a good listener, articulate, caring, understanding and able to create a safe environment for students to express themselves and learn and grow. I appreciate the one-to-one experience of tutoring to get to know a student and figure out how we can best work together for the student to get what s/he needs. I see myself as support for the student gaining both increased skills and more confidence.

I am an experienced teacher and tutor. Teaching is in the field of communication, such as Business Writing, Public Speaking, Listening and Interpersonal Communication. Currently I give classes for adults at UC Berkeley Extension. Previously I taught employees at UC Davis and college students at CCSF. I have taught at many other colleges and universities in the Bay Area. I hold a California Community College Teaching Credential in Communication.
I have extensive tutoring experience with students from elementary school to college helping with writing (including college essays), reading comprehension and retention, critical thinking, homework, study and organizational skills.
For adults at UC Davis, I have designed and taught classes in both Business Writing, including e-mails, and Writing Basics. As a teacher, I have corrected and graded many papers and learned what good writing looks like. Many of the professional hats I wear require me to express myself in writing in a variety of ways, which I do well. Proofreading experience also comes from all the papers I have graded. I have much experience teaching public speaking and see the correlation between it and effective writing, such as analyzing the audience, defining your purpose and organizing your thoughts.
