I appreciate the one-to-one experience of tutoring to get to know a student, establish a relationship and figure out how we can best work together for the student to get what they need. I help students to gain both increased skills and more confidence. I believe that learning should be engaging, meaningful, fun, and as relevant to everyday life as possible with open, two-way communication. I work well with people and am experienced, knowledgeable, a good listener, articulate, caring, understanding, enthusiastic, fun and able to create a safe environment for students to express themselves and learn and grow.

I have extensive tutoring experience with students from elementary school to college and beyond, including those for whom English is a second language, helping with writing (college essays), speaking, reading comprehension and retention, critical thinking, homework, time management, study and organizational skills.

My teaching experience is in the field of communication, such as Business Writing, Public Speaking, Listening and Interpersonal Communication. I have taught at many colleges and universities in the SF Bay Area and worked with adults at UC Berkeley Extension and elsewhere. For employees at UC Davis I designed and taught classes in both Business Writing and Writing Basics. As a teacher, I have corrected and graded many papers and learned what good writing looks like. Many of the professional hats I wear require me to express myself in writing in a variety of ways, which I do well. Proofreading experience also comes from all the papers I have graded.
