As a speech-language pathologist, I have specialized in working with children birth through elementary school and their caregivers. Every person is able to learn, at different rates and in different ways. I focus on strengths and areas of interest to teach underlying skills and concepts to help students learn in all areas. Learning can be challenging, and just as importantly, it can be fun! I attend to the student as a whole person and build on my belief that we are all life-long-learners.

My approach is very language-based, which relates to all academic, social and extra-curricular areas. With more than 20 years of experience, I have had the pleasure of being part of students finding and enhancing joy in learning! I enjoy learning so much that I am in school myself pursuing a Ph.D. in Education. Together, we will find the ways you learn best and help you meet your goals!

I have always enjoyed reading and writing. Through my education and experience, I have found a variety of techniques to help students with all aspects of Language Arts, from phonics and comprehension to writing lengthly reports. Being a speech-language pathologist allows me to understand the process from a variety of perspectives and individualize my approach with each student.

I have had the pleasure of working with infants, children, teens and adults with a variety of challenges, whether diagnosed or not. My experience with children who have Autism, Down Syndrome, Learning Disorders or other genetic or developmental delays has helped me recognize a multitude of ways of learning that are often overlooked. Sometimes, the most difficult aspect can be knowing where to start, but when the priorities are determined, many areas can be targeted with single activities. I meet each student where s/he is and help her/him get to the next level!

I would love to hear from you! Let's have a conversation about what you are looking for, and if I might be a good match for you and get started! My schedule is flexible, but tends to fill

ADHD

ADHD

I have worked with children and adolescents diagnosed as having ADD/ADHD in school settings for several years. It has been my experience that providing active learning experiences is highly beneficial to supporting these students. One of the aspects that is critical in assisting students learn is determining if their attention difficulties relate to focusing on too many things or if they are hyper focused. Often students are able to accurately self-assess when given specific guidance and are great partners in finding learning strategies that work best for them. Offering neurofeedback has also had strong positive results for children with whom I have used this method.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I began working with children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder more than 2 decades ago. Judevine Center for Autism is a nationally recognized therapeutic center where I worked for 7 years. In this job, I worked with individuals as young as 3 years old through adulthood in home, academic and community settings. My experience working with children and families continued beyond this job through my work as a speech-language pathologist. In addition to having a strong foundation in behavioral principles, I operate from a relational perspective. It would be a pleasure speaking with you about your child to see how we can work together.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

My work with students who have dyslexia has been primarily in elementary school. While there are several specific programs that can be utilized with students with this diagnosis, I have found that most students experience success and decreased frustration when a language-based approach is taken. When students are able to gather information from the context, they tend to approach reading more fluidly and are able to self-correct when they process the information differently than is provided. Offering strategies for organization and clarity related to mathematics can provide tools the student is able to implement with greater independence.

Currently, I am completing my Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Disability Studies.

As a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, I support students in all aspects related to reading.
