Ello there,

I'm Maxi, a professional cartoonist and graphic designer. I have a BA in Graphic Design from CSU Dominguez Hills and an MFA in Comics from California College of the Arts. I create comics for online and print, as well as plus-size positivity art. I attend comic cons like San Diego, WonderCon, LA, Long Beach, Rose City, and Heroes Con. I also have experience in speaking on panels related to art and comics. The one I'm most involved in is an art panel where my colleagues and I live draw cosplayers in cool poses while also answering art-related questions.
I also run my own art business, which I manage with the help of my partner, and I have a successful TikTok account where I post animatics and videos. I am proficient with various art software and can provide tutoring in digital art, as well as traditional art tools. Whether you're interested in learning the basics of digital or traditional art, feel free to get in touch with me!
A few quirky little things about me, I am a huge geek/nerd; which is why I went as far as to get an MFA in Comics because I wanted to be a master geek. I love comics but will pick up a good novel once in a while (I've read and finished "The Priory of the Orange Tree"). I also enjoy movies and will go to a movie theater and experience the whole movie thing because I want to! I will once in a while do fan art but I prefer doing my own thing. I will play on my Nintendo Switch whenever I need some downtime; my favorite game series of all time is "The Legend of Zelda" and I'm currently playing "A Link to the Past" because I never got to play it...and if you're wondering, yes, I played and finished both "Breath of the Wild" and "Tears of the Kingdom."
-Hope to hear form you!
-Maxi

Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

I have take Prepress at my university as a graduation requirement. I understand the basics of inDesign and have used them to create booklets and pamphlets for class and for my internship. I have created a song lyrics booklet, an informational on the history of the iPhone, and a children's booklet for a project at school and have created educational documents and booklets for my internship using inDesign.
Art History

Art History

I love history and I love art! During my undergrad, I tutored some of my classmates for free since it also helped me study for my lectures. I also received good grades and comments on my history research papers.
Drawing

Drawing

I have taken Beginning Art, 2D and 3D Composition as prerequisites to my major. I have also been drawing ever since I was a child so I am self taught with some education background in middle, high school and college. I was also given private lessons by a retired animation artist from Hanna/Barbera Studios to improve my drawing skills and better my human anatomy. Before starting a project on the computer, I will sketch it out first to layout my plan. I also draw during my free time and usually I scan my drawings to my laptop and add the digital touches on Photoshop or Illustrator. I can also sketch on my computer and add the finishing touches on Photoshop and create a digital painting.
Graphic Design

Graphic Design

Graphic Design is my major at Cal State University Dominguez Hills and I will receive my Bachelors in December. I have experience working as a freelance designer as well as working for a company. I also have an internship in Graphic Design and I am currently the main artist partnered up with Mario Williams.
Macintosh

Macintosh

I am a recent graduate at Cal State University Dominguez Hills, with my degree in Graphic Design. I am a self starter and self motivated. As a result, when I was first introduced to a Macintosh, I easily played with it and explored its many contents. When I entered the university, I had to learn to use all the Adobe programs using a Mac. I learned the different keyboard commands and how to navigate and organize all my files. Learning all these tricks, I managed to translate Mac language to PC. I would help my friends learn the Mac and translate the keyboard commands to the PC and eventually help my boyfriend understand his Macbook Pro when he stopped going to his Apple classes.
Microsoft Publisher

Microsoft Publisher

I have been using Microsoft Publisher ever since I was a high school student. I was a JROTC cadet and in charge of creating a newsletter reporting everything the battalion did from school events to school visits and even city and state competitions. After graduating high school and entering college, I first used it to create flyers and other forms of literature because I didn't have Photoshop or any of the other design programs. Publisher was my first design program until I started taking my major classes in my third year of college. During my third year, some of my friends needed help learning Publisher since they didn't have access to Photoshop so I helped them out free of charge (or I got a free lunch out of it) to create small flyers.
Painting

Painting

I took a painting class as a prerequisite for my major. I have also taken an Arts an Crafts class for non-majors in order to learn the basics of art, especially in painting. I know how to mix colors and I can paint in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. I can also paint on Photoshop and create digital paintings on my laptop using what I learned painting on a canvas away from the computer.
Photography

Photography

I have taken Digital Photography as a prerequisite for my major. I have also taken Advanced Photography for more advanced techniques (not a required class) and understand photography more. I also learned the basics of photography when I was a high school student at the Media Aid Center and have professional experience within the field. I have been hired to do the professional photography for events for my family's events and have been paid for my services. I have also been hired outside my family to do the engagement photos for a relative of one of my friends and I have been paid for my services as well. I have also done portraits for my boyfriend and his family and have also been allowed to participate in taking photos for the Port of Los Angeles.

Very Patient

I had known that Maxi is young. I had expected her to be a good teacher. She surprised me; she was excellent. She was very patient and very professional. I would like her as my teacher, for I would like to learn from her. Thank you WyzAnt for introducing me to her.

Great Tutor

Maxi is very good at what she does - photography and computer. She keeps my daughter's attention because she has passion for the subjects at hand. She has a good eye and caught some of my daughter's photos (which were incredible by the way) when I almost disregarded them. Maxi and my daughter get along very well. My daughter is 19 years old and she is learning fast. The hours are never wasted with LeeAnn's eagerness to learn and Maxi's eagerness to teach. Maxi always goes the extra mile and they are all over the place, I seem to always have to keep the time! Money very well spent! Shout Out to Maxi!!
