Art has been at the center of my life for more than thirty years as a practicing artist, university professor, and museum educator. I hold an MFA in Painting and Sculpture from Columbia University and have taught drawing, painting, design, sculpture, and art history in universities, museums, community arts organizations, and private studios.
I believe every student can learn to draw. Whether you are picking up a pencil for the first time, preparing an art school portfolio, returning to art after many years, or developing your own artistic practice, my role is to help you build confidence, strengthen your technical skills, and discover your own visual language.
My lessons combine observation, experimentation, and thoughtful guidance. Students learn how to truly see—developing an understanding of composition, light, color, form, and visual storytelling. Each lesson is tailored to the individual, with clear goals and practical exercises that encourage steady progress.
As a Teaching Artist with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), I have designed creative learning experiences for children, families, teens, adults, and older learners from many different backgrounds. This experience has taught me how to adapt my teaching to each student's interests, learning style, and goals.
I work with students of all ages and experience levels, including: beginning and intermediate drawing, painting and color theory, figure drawing, composition and design, sketchbook development, portfolio preparation for art schools and universities, college studio art support, creative coaching for practicing artists, and generative AI for artists, including creative prompting and integrating AI into an artistic workflow.
Whether your goal is to improve technical skills, prepare for college, develop a professional portfolio, or simply rediscover the joy of making art, I will help you build the skills and confidence to reach your goals.
I look forward to working with you.

Approved Subjects

Animation

Animation

I am a fine artist and university professor with more than 30 years of experience teaching visual storytelling, drawing, and creative technologies. I teach students how to animate their own drawings using today's AI animation tools while maintaining their individual artistic style, as well as traditional stop motion animation using paper cutouts, drawings, found objects, and mixed-media techniques. Students learn the complete creative process, from concept development and storyboarding to character design, image preparation, animation, editing, and sound. My lessons emphasize creativity, experimentation, and practical workflows, helping artists, illustrators, and beginners transform static artwork into engaging animated projects.
Drawing

Drawing

I hold an MFA in Painting and Sculpture from Columbia University and have more than 30 years of experience teaching drawing at universities, museums, and community arts organizations. I have taught observational, figure, and foundation drawing at Middlesex College, Drexel University, K-12 Artist-in-Residence programs, and as a Teaching Artist with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). My instruction emphasizes observation, composition, perspective, value, and expressive mark-making experimentation with drawing media while helping each student develop technical skills, confidence, and their own artistic voice.
Painting

Painting

I hold an MFA in Painting and Sculpture from Columbia University and have more than 30 years of experience teaching painting at universities, museums, and community arts organizations. As a fine artist, I teach a wide range of painting materials and techniques, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and mixed media, with an emphasis on color theory, composition, and paint handling. Students also learn professional studio practices such as stretching and constructing canvases, preparing painting surfaces, selecting appropriate materials, and understanding archival techniques. Whether students are beginners, preparing a portfolio, or refining an established practice, I tailor each lesson to their individual goals while helping them develop confidence, technical skill, and a unique artistic voice.
