About Erin

Bio

I’m an actor, comedian, speech & dialect coach, and acting teacher. I’m based in Los Angeles, where I perform comedy all over town, in addition to film & TV roles. I moved to LA from Cambridge, MA, where I earned my MFA in Acting from the American Repertory Theater Institute at Harvard. I love working with actors of all experience levels, but I also enjoy working with non-performers who are looking to feel more confident in their voice and speech skills.

I've been a speech teacher for over 10 years, working with adults and teenagers alike. I help ESL speakers modify their accents when they want to communicate more clearly and effectively, in business or life. I’ve coached over a dozen dialects, including RP, Cockney, Scottish, Irish, Australian, Russian, Texas, Boston, and New York. I work extensively with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as well as a variety of physiological speech techniques.

I believe in a holistic approach to voice, speech, and accent training: everything is connected! My teaching methodologies therefore incorporate physical training exercises, ear training, visual transcription, and text analysis, to give you the best understanding possible of your “instrument” and how you can use it.

Accent Reduction

Accent Reduction

For the last 10 years, I have been working with dozens of students to help them modify their accents to be more in line with those around them. I consider "accent reduction" to be a misnomer, as every speaker on earth has an accent. It isn't possible to "reduce" or "remove" an accent, only to change it into a different accent. I have helped many, many people do this. My teaching methods incorporate physical training exercises, ear training, visual transcription, and text analysis, to give students the best understanding possible of their “instrument” and how they can use it. I've worked with students from a variety of original language backgrounds, including Spanish, French, Turkish, Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin, Hindi, Tamil, and Indonesian. My own speech training is centered in Fitzmaurice and Linklater techniques, and I have a strong working knowledge of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as well.
