About Ramon

Bio

Hello, my name is Ramon.

I recently graduated from MIT with a degree in Computer Science and Economics, along with a minor in Mathematics. I’ve always had a strong passion for STEM, earning perfect scores of 800 on the SAT Math, Math Level 2, Physics, and Chemistry subject tests (back when they were offered), as well as 5s on AP exams including Calculus AB, Physics 1, Chemistry, and Computer Science Principles.

Throughout high school and college, I developed a deep interest in helping others understand complex ideas and build a confident, growth-oriented mindset. I have extensive experience tutoring students at both the high school and college levels. My areas of expertise include Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, English, History, Physics (Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism), and Computer Science. While I specialize in STEM subjects, I am happy to support students in a variety of disciplines as needed.

One of the most rewarding parts of teaching for me is seeing a student’s “AHA” moment—when a difficult concept finally makes sense. I tailor my approach to each student’s unique needs, whether they’re trying to catch up to their peers, get ahead, or improve their test scores. One of my proudest teaching moments was helping a student who initially felt very uncomfortable with pre-algebra eventually pass her AP Calculus exam.

I’m flexible with lesson plans and fully committed to helping students not only succeed academically but also build long-lasting confidence in their learning.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Qualifications: Served as a Teaching Assistant for Algebra 2, supporting students directly with classwork and homework. Tutored many students in Algebra 2 as well as more advanced math courses, including Precalculus, Calculus, and beyond. Teach with an eye toward future classes, so students see how current topics connect to the math they’ll encounter later in high school and college.
Calculus

Calculus

A little about my background: I earned a 5 on the AP Calculus exam, went on to MIT where I minored in Mathematics, and have since tutored AP Calculus for several years. My college coursework included advanced topics like Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and Discrete Mathematics , which deepened my understanding of the subject and the skills AP Calculus builds on. My approach is to quickly identify what a student already understands and where they need more support. AP Calculus often requires using familiar math skills in new ways, and I focus on bridging those gaps and making that paradigm shift less overwhelming. I’ve successfully helped students strengthen their foundation, gain confidence, and improve both their grades and exam readiness.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I began coding in high school and gained hands-on experience through robotics competitions, where my team placed at the national level. In college, I deepened my knowledge through a range of computer science courses and practical class projects. I also studied the theoretical foundations of computing, including data structures and algorithms, and completed advanced coursework in algorithm design and analysis. This combination of applied and theoretical learning has given me a strong foundation in computer science.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

One of the first courses I took in college was discrete mathematics, which, along with probability, helped build a strong foundation for my studies in computer science. Through this course, I developed a solid understanding of logic, set theory, combinatorics, and proofs—essential tools for algorithm design and analysis. The problem-solving techniques I learned in discrete math have continued to support my work in more advanced topics like algorithms and data structures.
Geometry

Geometry

Tutored students in math from elementary through high school Experience teaching high school geometry, including proofs and problem-solving Patient, supportive approach to help students build confidence
Physics

Physics

I received 5s on both the AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C: Mechanics exams, and continued with calculus-based physics in college. Later, I served as a TA for the Electricity and Magnetism course, where I worked closely with small groups to help students grasp complex material and stay on track. I originally planned to major in physics and took several upper-division courses—including Thermodynamics and Quantum Mechanics—before ultimately deciding to major in computer science. In addition to science, I can also help with any math needed for these subjects
Precalculus

Precalculus

I scored 5s on AP Calculus AB, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics C: Mechanics which all build off a strong mathematical background.
Robotics

Robotics

My experience with robotics began in middle and high school, where I worked extensively with kits like LEGO Mindstorms and VEX Robotics. I designed, built, and programmed robots for various challenges, developing both mechanical and software solutions to solve real-time problems. These projects taught me how to integrate sensors, motors, and control logic while working within time and hardware constraints. Competing in robotics competitions also strengthened my teamwork and troubleshooting skills in high-pressure environments.
