Hi, my name is Sophia! I am an incoming freshman at UCLA majoring in Business Economics. Throughout high school, I regularly helped classmates and peers with math and history coursework, particularly Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, as well as AP-level history and government courses. While I have not held a formal tutoring position, I have enjoyed helping others understand challenging material by breaking concepts down into simpler steps, working through practice problems together, and adjusting my explanations based on how each student learns best. I earned a 4 on both the AP U.S. History and AP U.S. Government and Politics exams, which strengthened my knowledge of these subjects and my ability to explain historical and governmental concepts.
I have also gained experience helping younger students with their schoolwork while babysitting. I have assisted elementary-aged children with reading, basic math, and homework assignments, which has taught me how to be patient and adapt my approach for younger learners. With elementary students, I focus on making the material approachable and encouraging them to work through problems themselves rather than simply giving them the answer. My experience supporting both peers and younger students has helped me develop communication, patience, and problem-solving skills that I would bring to tutoring.
