I started playing the violin when I was 5 years old. Entering high school, I played at my first professional-level gig at a charity concert called "From Classical to Rock" where I got to play with the singer from the band "Heart". At that time, I also had my first music tutoring experience, volunteering for 2 summers doing 200 hours at a music summer camp as a violin tutor and camp organizer for elementary schoolers. By the time I graduated high School, I received the National School Orchestra Award for 3 years in a row, and I was nominated for Orange County Artist of the Year, and played in the Orange County Youth Symphony for 3 years. I graduated from Bucknell University with a BA of my own creation, combining Music Composition, Computer Science, and videography into one Major that didn't exist formally before. During college, I performed as concertmaster for 3 years, took part in producing and mixing music for myself and other people (often helping my peers write their first songs), and later on worked as a computer science TA.
My offer to you:
if
- You're interested in learning the violin/music for the first time
- Already play Violin and would like help practicing/learning new music
- Are interested in music composition/production, and want tips/help making your own music
- Are curious about Computer Music Programming and want an introduction
I would love to offer my time and experience to serve as a tutor in any of these areas
My approach to teaching:
From my experience, the best results tutoring someone come when a spark of excitement is found. For that, leaning on the interests and strengths of each person when deciding a lesson plan is most effective. Therefore, to have an encouraging experience, the lesson plan will be tailored to each individual's goals. If requested, I may offer formal preparation, including reading traditional music notation, chord sheets, foundational music theory, and improvisation. But equally, informal exploration is accepted if preferred to spark curiosity.
