Hello! I’m Mariapaz, a dedicated math educator with over 20 years of classroom and tutoring experience. I hold a B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics, both from the University of South Florida. I moved to California 15 years ago. I have my California teaching credential in Math grades 6 to 12.
I have taught both middle school and high school, and most often tutor: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and AP Statistics. I am also familiar with the College Preparatory Mathematics curriculum, and I have taught Integrated 2 and 3 in my last teaching position.
I have been employed as an AP Statistics Reader for the College Board, where I grade free-response questions and understand how points are awarded. I teach students how to structure their reasoning, use precise statistical language, and show work clearly to maximize free-response credit.
My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and encouraging. I focus on strengthening core skills and filling gaps by building step-by-step problem-solving strategies. I also enjoy helping students prepare for tests and manage math anxiety.
