I'm a recently retired public servant and executive director, having served a large Southern California local government agency for over 32 years. In my executive role I managed three primary programs including serving as executive director of a $9 billion supplemental retirement savings plan and overseeing a variety of benefit plans. I also prepared budgets in excess of half a billion annually.
Writing Experience - My responsibilities were writing intensive, including the ongoing direct preparation of 5-10 detailed reports monthly to our oversight bodies. This writing experience required that I develop exceptional skills in translating complex information, organizing thoughts and content, and making persuasive arguments. In addition, I played a direct role in developing a high level of custom educational, marketing, and engagement content in the form of newsletters, web information, and other creative materials. My broad range of practical writing skill allows me to guide others in being effective communicators in many ways, including report writing and presentations.
Public Speaking Experience - As an executive director, I've been required to lead and present to a variety of boards and committees on a no less than monthly basis. I was highly regarded as a credible, persuasive presenter. I've also had the opportunity to speak multiple times at conferences. I've learned how to demonstrate competence, confidence, and credibility with audiences and to do so in a highly engaging way.
Teaching - I have supervised and mentored dozens of employees over my long career. I've also directed hundreds of contracted service provider employees providing our benefit programs.
I am a former member and president of a national association of state and local government plan sponsors of defined contribution plans. I graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies.
