I currently work as a financial professional and hold my Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) license, with more licensing on the way as I keep building my career. I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Business Administration, concentrating in finance, and that's actually where I first started tutoring. I spent time helping students through courses like Corporate Finance and Financial Accounting, usually one-on-one or in small groups, working through problem sets and getting them comfortable with stuff like time value of money, financial statements, and capital budgeting. Most of the time, students weren't struggling because the material was too hard, they just hadn't had anyone walk them through the logic behind it yet, so that's usually where I'd start. I also spent a good amount of time talking with new students about their courses, internships, and how to think about their career path in general.

Since then, I've gotten to work in a couple different corners of finance, from corporate finance at a big tech company to wealth management at a smaller firm, working directly with financial plans and portfolio management

As far as how I actually tutor, I'd describe it as conversational and intentional. I'm not really a lecture-at-you type, I'd rather have the student talk through their own thinking out loud so I can figure out where things are actually getting mixed up, instead of just re-explaining material they already understand. Whether it's a business assignment or a bigger conversation about internships or career direction, my goal is for the student to leave with a genuine understanding and newfound confidence in their individual problem solving.
