Hi, my name is John. I am a drummer and percussionists with over 40 years of experience. I have provided beginner to expert drum lessons to students young and old for over 20 years. I fell in love with drumming in the 5th grade and have enjoyed many different experiences as a musician including, but not limited to, school orchestra, school jazz band, marching band, drum circles and performing in several country, jazz, funk, blues, rock and metal bands. I benefited greatly from extensive formal education as a percussionist and on the drumset, and I want to pass that along to others so they can experience the joy that this instrument can bring to yourself and to others through your playing. Each student's musical journey is unique and specific to them as an individual and in turn I tailor my instruction to the direction that my students want to go with drumming.
I am currently in a band. Our music is best described as progressive rock on the edge of metal. I want to begin providing drum set lessons again with a focus on building a solid foundation of fundamental rhythmic patterns (rudiments) and drum set method. The purpose of my instruction is to meet the needs of the student aspiring to become a drummer in a school band or orchestra, simply want to improve their abilities and performance in their local garage band or have a loftier goal of being the next big super star in the music industry. I strive to provide instruction material that can save not only some of my time, but also eliminate unnecessary expense for my students. With this goal in mind, I can provide instruction on the proper manner of instrument assembly, care and restoration.
What I love most about tutoring is watching my students physical and mental abilities grow and in turn their overall confidence in themselves and excitement about their instrument. I love teaching my students in a fun way. I always say that if you are not having fun during instruction and when you perform, then adjustments need to be made. Above all, it must be a fun p
