I have already tutored many students privately and helped them prepare Common Application essays, UC personal statements as well as supplemental essays for private universities. In addition, I have compiled university spreadsheets to keep the student and families organized with deadlines, websites, submission details, etc.

I have taught English Literature to grades 5-12 for the last 8 years. My students have succeeded in English, grammar and writing. The majority of my students score proficient and advanced on STAR testing and my older students on the SAT's. Last year, I began writing workshops for my 12th grade students to help them with their college application essays which has proven to be invaluable.

I help students understand grammar to not only meet Common Core standards, but to understand when and why to apply certain grammar rules to be better writers. I incorporate videos, practice, and lessons to help students grasp the rules of English.

I have written English language arts curriculum for grades 6-8 and have taught from numerous Common Core curriculum in grades 6-12. Students will learn about literary analysis in classics, modern literature, American literature, and British literature. They will learn analysis, rhetoric, and the enjoyment!

I have taught phonics using the Abeka curriculum which was based on phonemic awareness building from the 5 vowels and then building on phonemes. My students were able to learn to decode words and read emergent reader books within 5-7 months. In addition I taught common sight words and blended to two philosophies to help students become confident and successful readers.
SAT Reading

In addition to the mechanics of grammar, vocabulary and English I have coached my students on test taking strategies. The students that I have worked with have done exceptionally well. A student I tutored last year was accepted to 11 universities and received multiple scholarships. I'm a fun tutor and happy to help your child see success.

I have taught middle-school as well as high school students with organization of their subjects using an agenda, electronic apps, and electronic calendars. I have helped students with their pacing guides to manage their time and projects so that they see success in school.

I teach essay writing to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. I teach to core standards with college writing in mind for their future. I believe in making writing fun and focusing on the writing process which creates confident writers and a successful outcome.

AMAZING with a capital "A"

I found Wendy through WyzAnt and was NOT disappointed. After scouring the internet for someone in the Ventura County area to proofread my newly penned manuscript, I finally found WyzAnt which led me to a truly wonderful person! I needed someone who had a very strong English background but who could also review my manuscript and understand where I was coming from. She fit the bill, no question. She is incredibly patient, helpful, knowledgeable (boy is she!) and kind. English was always my strongest subject but along the proofreading road, I was still learning things from her. I only wish she had been my high school English teacher! If your child (or if you) need help with any of the subjects she teaches, you will find yourself in good hands with her. I listen to what she tells me about how she teaches her own classes and I can imagine that even those who hate the subject will gain a new respect for it because of her.
