About Harry

Learning should be fun, empowering and exciting. I am an author, a professor, and a very experienced designer, programmer and media producer with a passion for teaching, learning, innovation and education. I go beyond teaching the fundamental concepts, and add a deep understanding of what they are for, how they are used, and where they all fit together.

I believe that enthusiasm, dreams and accomplishment are the best motivators for education. I teach through a combination of traditional skills, real world demonstrations, puzzles, challenges and games. I believe that true education is not about memorization and repetition, but true learning comes from really understanding the fundamental concepts, principles and rules and seeing the logic of how to apply them.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. I have a passion for computers, media, math, science, music, magic, art and science fiction. I have won and judged numerous science fairs, and have taught math, programming, data structures, game development, graphics design, 3D modeling, environmental design, desktop publishing, data management, presentation design, video production, visual fx, editing and audio engineering.

As a designer, producer, technical director and media executive, I bring real world experience in the fields of television, games, shows, theme parks, ride and exhibit design. I offer real world projects and examples, and enjoy sharing fun stories and anecdotes. I have been fortunate to work with many of the most talented and skilled artists, designers, storytellers, engineers and innovators developing theme park attractions like Backdraft and Jurassic Park, television shows like Full House and Star Trek: The Next Generation, movies like Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and many games, shows, exhibits and museums.

My media work has helped inspire a generation to discover and explore the fascinating wonders of science, history, fantasy, art and technology. As a college instructor and author I have taught students to design, program, calculate and innovate. I love working with students individually and in small groups.

I love to see the look of revelation and clarity setting in, the sudden spark of new understanding, and the glow of accomplishment, inspiration and motivation. I think that enthusiasm and excitement for knowledge and learning is the single greatest gift that any tutor or teacher can give.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
