Hi, I’m Sahan! As a UCLA math major who regularly takes graduate-level coursework, I’ve learned that mastering advanced math actually comes down to a deep understanding of the basics. Hi, I’m Sahan! As a UCLA math major who regularly takes graduate-level coursework, I’ve learned that mastering advanced math actually comes down to a deep understanding of the basics. My journey is rooted in competitive math and computer science (AIME, USACO), which taught me the value of moving beyond rote memorization and avoiding black-box shortcuts. As a tutor, my goal is to help you develop genuine intuition, and the computational literacy needed to apply it to any setting. I believe the best way to learn is to simplify complex statements into well-behaved settings to build foundational intuition. Once that foundation is solid, I will help you bridge the gap to more difficult problems and discover the deep interconnections within the content you are learning.

I bring years of teaching and mentoring experience to my sessions. I have guided middle schoolers in competitive problem-solving through MATHCOUNTS, volunteered extensively at my high school’s math tutoring center, and successfully revived and led a Computer Science club, where I designed and taught a weekly curriculum to over 100 students. Beyond tutoring, I have a deep background in advanced mathematics. I have conducted funded research at Indiana University Bloomington and Tufts University, co-authored two papers for the 2026 UAI Conference, and completed an independent reading course under Fields Medalist Terence Tao. This combination of teaching experience and academic rigor allows me to guide students from foundational concepts all the way to advanced research.

Whether you are looking to master your current coursework, prepare for rigorous math competitions, or dive into advanced university-level topics, I am committed to creating a supportive, empowering environment. Together, we will build the intuition and confidence you need to reach your mathematical goals. Feel free to reach out to schedule a session!

Real Analysis

I’ve passed the UCLA Master's qualifying exam (real analysis), done an independent reading course in PDEs with Terence Tao, and harmonic analysis research at the Indiana Bloomington Math REU. I previously helped students in discussion sections and a class Discord, causing my real analysis cohort to achieve the highest grades the class has seen in recent years. I am familiar with standard texts like Rudin, Abbott, and Tao.

Extremely Knowledgeable Tutor

My son worked with Sahan throughout the summer for Geometry, and we were so happy with the experience that we’re continuing with Algebra. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, prompt, and great at explaining concepts clearly. Highly recommend!
