Hi, I'm Alex! I'm currently an undergraduate at Stanford University studying biology, but I've always been fascinated by all fields of math and science - physics, biology, psychology, chemistry, CS, you name it! What I love most about these fields is finding underlying patterns and applying them in new contexts. I've taken coursework in each of these categories at Stanford, and have performed well in all of them, maintaining a GPA of 4.01. I also have gotten 5s in all of the following AP exams: Physics C (Mechanics/Electricity & Magnetism), Biology, Chemistry, Calculus BC, Statistics, and Psychology.
I have several years of one-on-one tutoring experience, working with students taking math and science courses in both high school and college settings, though I am open to tutoring younger students as well. Here, I learned to personalize the learning experience to what each student needs. I specialize in teaching STEM subjects, but I also have experience with tutoring SAT/ACT English as well.
As a tutor, I won't just be an answer key. I've always loved guiding students to get to the "click" moment, where an overarching pattern or method finally becomes clear. Rather than giving answers to specific problems, I hope to establish a pattern of thinking that allows them to tackle any problem. I can tailor my teaching method to whatever works best for you, whether it be explanatory sessions to better learn the material or practice problem sessions where we practice applying methods we've learned to problems that we might encounter in the classroom or the real world. I've found in the past that my favorite teachers were ones who not only taught the material well, but also created a deeper interest for the subject that they teach. I plan to do that as well, pursuing each student's relevant interests its fullest extent, and bring in real-world applications of the material we are learning to spark new interest in STEM.
