Hi, I'm Casey! I graduated with Dean's honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology. While in college, I interned at a local high school and realized that my true passion was helping others learn and meaningfully engage with science. After graduated, I obtained by Secondary Science Teaching Credential from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. While taking classes, I was a full-time student teacher in a local middle school, which confirmed my love of teaching science and my passion for working with students.
I have been working as a secondary science teacher for the last three years. My favorite part of teaching was helping my students understand and engage with science in ways meaningful to them. I took pride in creating and implementing effective science lessons, using instructional strategies centered around how my students learned best. It was important to me to ensure that all of my lessons where adapted to meet the needs of my students. If a student or class was struggling to understand a key concept, I made sure to review that concept using a new lesson until everyone could demonstrate mastery.
One of my favorite parts of teaching was when I had the opportunity to work with students one-on-one, such as during study hall or when I would host after school tutoring sessions. It was through this work that I was inspired to become a tutor. As a tutor, I use my skills in developing lessons, effective teaching strategies, and adaptability to work directly with students and help them meet their academic goals.
