I’m Emma, and I am so excited for the opportunity to help your child thrive and build confidence in their learning. My journey in education began at Stanford University, where I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master of Arts in Elementary Education. I hold a California Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential along with a BCLAD Bilingual Authorization, which means I am specially trained to support diverse learners and English language development. My educational background gives me a deep understanding of the why and how behind student learning, allowing me to approach tutoring with a mix of academic expertise and genuine empathy for the student experience.

Currently, I am an elementary school teacher in Palo Alto, where I teach in a multi-age fourth and fifth-grade classroom. This unique setting has given me extensive experience in differentiating instruction for a wide range of student abilities and levels. Before taking on my own classroom, I spent years in student teaching roles across bilingual kindergarten and third/fourth-grade settings. My teaching style is rooted in project-based learning and social-emotional growth; I believe that when students feel supported and engaged, they are capable of incredible things. I love using data-driven interventions to keep students motivated and on track with their specific goals.

Beyond my full-time teaching, I have a strong foundation in one-on-one tutoring with over 200 hours of experience specifically supporting fourth and fifth graders in math, reading, and writing. I specialize in creating personalized "reengagement" lessons that turn tricky concepts into "aha!" moments through invigorating materials and clear routines. Whether I am working with a student on literacy skills or helping them navigate complex math problems, my method is always to meet the student exactly where they are and provide the tailored, encouraging support they need to succeed. I can’t wait to bring this same energy and dedication to our sessions together!

ADHD

ADHD

With a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Stanford, I bring a deep understanding of neurodiversity and the specific ways ADHD can impact a student's daily school experience. In my current fourth and fifth-grade classroom, I specialize in creating high-interest, multi-sensory lessons that keep students engaged while providing the clear structure and frequent "brain breaks" they need to thrive. I have multiple students every year in my classroom with diagnosed and undiagnosed ADHD. I love working one-on-one to develop personalized strategies—like visual schedules and movement-based learning—that help students build focus and feel proud of their unique learning style. My approach is always rooted in patience and empathy, ensuring every student feels seen and supported while reaching their full potential.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I was accepted into multiple Ivy League colleges and Stanford. I also worked for a college prep company helping students develop their portfolios, extracurriculars, and college essays. I can help your student write and edit their application essays, develop their extracurriculars and resume, build their passions/intellectual vitality, and apply to scholarships. My teaching background gives me an added edge for how to write polished, structured, succinct, and effective essays, while my Stanford background gives me key insight into what top-tier colleges are looking for in applicants. I am compassionate, patient, experienced, and encouraging.
Cooking

Cooking

I have loved to cook and bake for my entire life and I would love to help inspire you with a passion for cooking and new skills. I specialize in meal prep, quick family-friendly dinners, vegetarian and vegan meals, desserts, and sourdough bread recipes. I am a patient teacher and look forward to helping you gain confidence in the kitchen.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a general education instructor for students at a public school in Palo Alto with an emphasis on multiage instruction, project-based learning, and social-emotional learning. I differentiate and coordinate instruction for students with Individualized Education Plans, develop and implement engaging lessons across subject areas, and promote student agency and efficacy through a classroom economy. I participate in ongoing formal and informal assessments, track outcomes, and use data to guide interventions. In previous student teaching positions I worked in high need areas and enacted and designed rigorous whole-class and small-group reading, writing, and math lessons, provided differentiated instruction through extensive 1-on-1 interactions with students and daily leveled reading groups. I coordinated with the lead teacher to establish individualized student goals, tracked student data through daily assessments and digital score analysis, adapted lesson plans for students years behind grade-level standards. I also developed and implemented innovative lesson plans in math, phonics, literacy, and science utilizing a culturally-relevant approach integrating students’ diverse linguistic, cultural, and racial backgrounds. I collected and evaluated student data using Fountas & Pinnell to establish learning goals and plan instruction. Lastly, I taught a daily Tier 2 Intervention literacy group of five students, created individualized instructional materials.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I hold a Master’s from Stanford and a BCLAD Bilingual Authorization, which specifically certifies me to support English Learners through evidence-based language acquisition strategies. My experience ranges from providing intensive literacy interventions for emergent bilingual students to teaching in integrated, multi-age classroom settings where I differentiate every lesson for diverse language levels. I also took a volunteer certification course at Stanford for ESL/ESOL. I worked with Stanford staff and adults in East Palo Alto who were native Spanish Speakers, to teach them English in a real-life setting. I identified their highest need interactions and settings, and address them each week through targeted lessons. I focus on creating a supportive, culturally responsive environment where students feel confident practicing their new language skills while mastering content. By scaffolding lessons and using high-interest, visual materials, I ensure that language is never a barrier to a student's curiosity or success.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I can help your student write effective, structured, succinct, and engaging essays for any subject, whether they are in elementary school learning how to write five-paragraph essays or even a simple paragraph, middle school, high school, or college. I took AP Language and Literature, as well as multiple writing courses at Stanford. I can edit and revise their essays for grammar, punctuation, conventions, and style, help them develop a thesis and structure, and also assist them with research. As a teacher, my students write 10 essays a year (informational, opinion, narrative) on various topics. I teach them using a structured gradual release of responsibility model and edit and revise each of their 24 essays at the end of each cycle.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

As a Stanford-educated teacher currently leading a fourth and fifth-grade classroom, I have extensive experience helping students navigate the essential "hidden" skills of school, such as organization, time management, and task initiation. I work with 5+ kids in my class each year to develop crucial executive functioning skills. My approach involves breaking down complex projects into bite-sized, manageable steps and implementing visual routines that help students build their independence and focus. I love working one-on-one to find the specific organizational tools—whether it's a personalized checklist, visual timers, or a color-coded system—that truly click for each individual learner. By focusing on these executive functioning foundations, I help my students transform feeling overwhelmed into feeling empowered and in control of their own learning journey.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

Drawing on my Stanford education and daily experience as a fourth and fifth-grade teacher, I specialize in helping young writers find their unique creative voices through the narrative writing process. I guide students through every stage of storytelling, from building imaginative worlds and complex characters to mastering "show, don't tell" techniques that bring their drafts to life. By using an encouraging, workshop-style approach, I help students overcome writer's block and build the technical skills needed to organize their ideas into compelling, cohesive plots. My goal is to make fiction writing feel like an exciting adventure, empowering students to feel truly proud of the stories they tell.
