Hi! I'm Kate I. I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. As a certified classroom teacher, I taught all subjects in 4th grade for 7 years. I then went on to a middle school where I taught math and/or science to 5th and 6th graders for 5 years. I was named the school Teacher of the Year in 2016 and loved working with my students and watching them grow. I specialize in elementary and middle school math instruction as I love the subject and helping students understand it better.
After leaving the classroom, I continued tutoring math for students in 5th-8th grades both in person and online and would love to help you learn and grow in this subject! I typically start out a tutoring session with a fun check-in question to connect with my students, present a problem to work through together that gets our critical thinking muscles working, teach the concept while working through examples together, and have the student complete problems to check their understanding. I generally like to follow the I do (teacher models), We do (student and teacher work through the problem together), You do (student completes problems independently) method with math instruction.
In summary, I have taught math in the classroom for grades 4-6 (including teaching 7th/8th grade math to upper level 6th graders) and tutored in person throughout my years in the classroom. I have also tutored students both online and in person (grades 5-8), and I would love to help more students learn and grow in their conceptual understanding of math through online tutoring.
*The end of my last teacher certification period is approaching, so after June of 2026 my current teaching certification will have expired.
