I hold credentials as a Social Science Teacher in California and Arizona, and I currently teach AP World History, Honors World History, and Modern World History in high schools. In addition, I serve as an AP Exam Reader, which gives me firsthand knowledge of what AP scorers look for and some of the difficulties students face when preparing for the exam. My tutoring mainly includes preparation for AP students in DBQs, LEQs, SAQs, content review, and overall AP exam preparation. My educational philosophy is based on teaching students to think like historians rather than just learning facts. Once students acquire certain skills like sourcing, contextualization, and causation, they become better writers.
Equally as important as academic skill development is self-confidence. Students often feel like they cannot handle the content load or feel intimidated by the writing section. I assist my students in breaking down the exam into manageable bits and realize that they already know more than they think. Personalized feedback, practice essays, content review, and exam strategy form a nurturing environment where students can ask questions and benefit from errors.
