Bio

I am Malcolm (Mac), a retired teacher and applied mathematician. I know how important the right tutor is. A good tutor can help catapult students to success in a way that classroom teaching, by itself, cannot do. I aim to help you succeed in math by fostering the right attitude - by taking anxiety out of the equation, having some fun and seeing the application of math to the real world.

I am Malcolm (Mac), a retired teacher and applied mathematician. I know how important the right tutor is. A good tutor can help catapult students to success in a way that classroom teaching, by itself, cannot do. I aim to help you succeed in math by fostering the right attitude - by taking anxiety out of the equation, having some fun and seeing the application of math to the real world.

I have taught mathematics at California State University at Long Beach where I earned my Master's in math. Classes I've taught include Algebra, Finite Mathematics, and numerous others. I have also tutored these and other subjects. In addition to teaching, I have a Ph.D. in engineering and have had a career working as a computer programmer for Computer Aided Geometric applications.

What I love about tutoring is the one-on-one interaction with students. This is the best way to connect with students. I have a great deal of experience with this from tutoring lower division classes while working on my own degrees.

My approach to tutoring is to work problems with you, referring back to the book or other reading material, tying reading material to specific problems - and, importantly, to meet you where you are.

I have vast experience, patience and a focus on results. For me, success is measured one student at a time.

I worked as a professional data scientist for 5 years at the University of CA, Irvine. Part of my post-doctoral course-work included advanced data structures, such as those one would encounter in data science classes.
