About Ryan

Bio

I’m Ryan, a Special Education teacher who enjoys working with students who need support staying focused, organized, and on track with their schoolwork. I’ve found that many students don’t struggle because they can’t learn the material, but because they feel overwhelmed or don’t know where to start. My goal is to help them take things step-by-step so they can complete their work and build confidence along the way.

I earned my degree in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from California State University, Long Beach, and later completed my Moderate/Severe Special Education teaching credential there with a 4.0 GPA. I was also invited to and inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

My experience includes about 7 years as a Paraeducator in Moderate/Severe Special Education, working with students from elementary through adult transition (age 22), both one-on-one and in group settings. I later taught Special Education (grades 3–5) and worked as a Home/Hospital teacher, supporting students in their homes and hospital settings. These experiences helped me learn how to adjust my approach for a wide range of students, including those with IEPs, behavior challenges, and different learning styles.

My approach is simple and structured. I break work into manageable steps, help students get started, and keep them moving forward using positive reinforcement and redirection when needed. I focus on creating a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable, stay engaged, and build confidence as they make progress. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to book a tutoring appointment. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I have experience working with students with ADHD who need help staying focused, organized, and on task. I spent about 7 years working as an Independence Facilitator/Paraeducator with Capistrano Unified School District, where I supported students in structured classroom settings. I use a step-by-step approach to break assignments into manageable pieces and help students stay engaged. I also use positive reinforcement and redirection to keep students moving forward and completing their work.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

As a credentialed Moderate/Severe Special Education teacher, I have experience working with students on the autism spectrum with a wide range of needs, including helping students stay focused, communicating, and redirect behaviors when they get off track. My experience includes working in both classroom and individualized settings, including Home/Hospital instruction. I focus on creating a calm, structured environment and adjusting my approach based on each student’s communication style and learning needs so they can feel comfortable and successful.
Common Core

Common Core

Through my work in multiple school districts, I have supported students with Common Core assignments across subjects. I help students understand what the questions are asking, stay organized, and complete their work step-by-step. My focus is on keeping students on track and helping them follow through so they can successfully finish their work and build confidence to work more independently over time.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I hold a teaching credential in Moderate/Severe Special Education and have worked with students in multiple settings, including Capistrano Unified, Santa Ana Unified (grades 3–5), Tustin Unified as a Home/Hospital teacher, and currently as a substitute teacher. I specialize in helping students stay organized, break tasks into steps, and follow through on assignments. I adjust my approach to each student so they can make progress at their own pace and build confidence.
Water Polo

Water Polo

I started playing water polo in 4th grade. In high school, I swam and played water polo for the Varsity team for 4 years. My senior year, my water polo team won the CIF Championship and I was 1st team all CIF. I went to college on a partial water polo scholarship. In swim, I am on the wall of fame at my high school for one of the fastest 100 yard Breaststroke times, and I was in CIF finals for the 100 yard breaststroke, freestyle sprint races, and all the relays for most years I swam. I coached 13 and under water polo when I was 15 years old, and helped through the years for the club my dad owned when I had extra time. Fundamentals are everything! Without fundamentals, there is nothing to build on. I have also been a seasonal(summer time) beach lifeguard for one of the most traveled locations in Southern California, where I bodysurf daily and navigate large rips to rescue beachgoers. One of my biggest joys was when I taught an adult student with Autism and Tuberous Sclerosis how to swim from no previous knowledge. By the end of the semester, I had the student swimming 500 yards independently within the class time each week. Again, fundamentals are everything! If you have a pool we can use, I would love to teach you or you child how to swim. It is one of the most important life skills anyone can have, and should have. Please reach out to me and we'll have fun making it happen.
