Learning is Always a Journey

Is there a teacher along your educational path that you will remember forever? I do. My 3rd grade teacher. What made her so special to me was that she genuinely took the time to learn about me, my interests, and life. I didn't feel like I was just another kid being pushed along to the next grade. I felt heard and connected.
I carried that feeling with me as I shaped who I wanted to be as a teacher. I believe in the power of fostering personal agency in learning. I admired watching my students show me how they wanted to learn. Once that was established, my students became interested and invested in their work, as they were the architect.
The best thing about tutoring is that building an authentic foundation of learning style and strategies can occur at a quicker pace. I meet the student where they're at, and then we develop a game plan. Soon enough, we've made it to the championships.
I have been a teacher for 11 years now. I have a Masters Degree in Education with a focus on Reading Intervention. I decided to take this year off to evaluate my life and confirm my happiness in the Education forum. What I have discovered is that I am much more satisfied with one on one, or small group, teaching. I feel like I can make a bigger difference tutoring because I have the time to discover what way my students learn best. I get the opportunity to tap into specific learning modalities. I observe and use the unique preferences and ways the INDIVIDUAL has the most connections with so they can feel comfortable and confident in using their tailored methods for future learning.
My specialty is teaching reading. However, having been a teacher for so long, I have experience in all subjects cross the board. I have also worked with adults. One of my unique offerings is teaching parents about the curriculum so they can learn new strategies that could be helpful along the way.
